Renewing your AALA licence: why timeliness matters

The implications of being late

Overview

Applications for licence renewal must be received by the AALA no less than three months and not more than 6 months before the expiry of the current licence.

Submitting an application within this window ensures it is accepted on time. It means the licence will remain in force until a decision is made.

If an application is not accepted within the required window the applicant risks:

  • Being unlicensed, and therefore unable to legally provide activities requiring a licence
  • Losing the opportunity for an additional year of licence duration if it expires during the review period
  • Returning to a one-year duration (or less) – if the licence expires before the renewal application is accepted

A recent example illustrates the impact: a provider who would have been eligible for a three-year licence, had the application been submitted in good time, received a licence with an 11-month duration.

Renewal process

There are seven steps involved in renewing your licence. These are outlined in our Application review process page, along with practical tips to help ensure your application progresses smoothly.
