Adventure Risk Management Services (Adventure RMS) provide inspection, review and consultancy services primarily in relation to regulations, standards and established criteria in the provision of Adventure Activities. These activities include, but are not limited to, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, SUP, caving & mine exploration, hill walking, climbing & abseiling, mountain biking and skiing.

Appointed by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) inspectorate, we provide statutory inspection services for licensable adventure activities as defined by the Adventure Activities Licensing Regulations 2004. Our services help to ensure effective risk management systems are in place so that people can take part in instructor-led outdoor adventure activities without exposure to avoidable risks of disabling injury or death.

Appointed by the Ministry of Defence as subject matter experts to the Adventurous Training Safety Regulator (ATSR). We provide inspection services and subject matter expertise in relation to adventurous training delivered to serving personnel of the Royal Air force, Army and Royal Navy both in Great Britain and overseas.

Adventure RMS is also able to provide support for local authorities, the police and others in the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses which occur during instructor led adventure activities. We also work with a range of other clients (companies, charities, schools etc) in relation to the safety and quality of the adventure activities they provide in Great Britain and overseas.

We have a team of experienced and active consulting inspectors and inspectors spread across Great Britain, who collectively hold nationally recognised qualifications at the highest level across the range of activities inspected by us. Selected for their personal experience in the delivery and management of adventure activities to young people and adults in the UK and abroad they are able to draw on considerable personal, practical experience in the safety management of adventure activities and adventure training in the work they undertake on our behalf.

The inspectors are supported in their work by a liaison officer, consulting inspectors and a head of service.

What We Don’t Do

We do not provide educational visits advice to local authorities or academy chains.
