Steve grew up in Northern Ireland where he started helping at an outdoor activity centre aged 13 a passion which subsequently became his career for over 25 years.

He has been an outdoor instructor, college lecturer, programme manager, head of department and consultant. He has lived and worked in all three home nations of the UK and several centres abroad, as well as being an AALS inspector in the South of England and RYA inspector in Scotland and the South West for 8 years.

As a youth he competed in windsurfing at a national level and kayaking at European and world championships. In recent years he found a love of challenges and expeditions including rowing across the Atlantic Ocean, and several sea kayak expeditions.

He started coasteering in Pembrokeshire and has guided coasteering throughout the UK. He has been a representative for the National Coasteering Charter in Scotland, working with other guides and business to share good practice and lessons learnt.

“I love everything about working in the outdoor industry from giving people their first taste of adventure to helping shape and develop future instructors. Working as an inspector gives me the wonderful privilege of meeting and working with lots of other outdoor providers who share the same passion and understanding of the importance of adventure in everyone’s lives”.

Steve has degrees in Applied Sports Science, Teaching and a range of qualifications in windsurfing, paddle sports, climbing, surf lifesaving and mountaineering.
