Jon started in the outdoor industry in 1982, initially working for a multi-activity company, a vocation that continues unbroken to this day.
As well as working with Adventure RMS, he works as an instructor at Plas y Brenin, the National Outdoor Centre. His work covers pretty much all departments and all course types, the proverbial ‘Jack of All Trades’. Jon’s work also includes the role of technical adviser for a Peruvian adventure travel firm.
During his time in the industry Jon has worked in most sectors, private and local authority centres, including working as a university safety officer and lecturer. A couple of years were spent living the life of the itinerant raft guide, working mostly in Nepal or Austria, hazy days of sun, white water, and adventure.
Over the years he has collected a few qualifications – British Canoeing (BC) level 5 Kayak coach, plus level 3 in other disciplines. Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor, International Mountain Leader, Mountain Bike Leader/Coach, Teacher, Rescue 3 Advanced Instructor.
Jon is still as active as any parent can be, climbing rock or ice, white water paddling and mountain biking. His preference is always for something ‘new’, either new to him or exploring the nooks and crannies of the outdoor world. His most recent trips have all been to seek out un-run (or rarely run) rivers, spending quite a bit of time in Peru exploring, plus a great trip to Kenya. Jon refuses to disclose the destination for his next trip other than – secret destination ‘X’!
