John’s love for the outdoors started young. Adventure became woven into his life through college and his passion for the outdoors developed into a career. For the last 26 years John has worked as an instructor, technical adviser, and qualification course provider in several outdoor centres. For the past 15 years, he’s headed the outdoor activities and learning department for a local authority where he continues to be a provider for all the Summer Mountain Training walking awards.

John has worked at centres around the UK and France as well as freelance instructing in the UK and New Zealand. He currently resides in Central Scotland with his wife and three children.

John holds senior nationally recognised  qualifications in Mountainsports and Paddlesports, as well as qualifications in a number of other outdoor disciplines.

John has spent 15 years volunteering with Scottish Mountain Rescue. He has also served as a director with Mountain Training Scotland.
