Andy grew up in the Kent countryside, where his early outdoor adventures came through active involvement in local youth groups and associations in that area.
He began his instructing career as a kayaking instructor in the late 1990s and went on to work in multi‑activity outdoor centres across Wales and England up until 2022. During this time, he spent more than 15 years as Operations Manager for a large multi‑activity centre in the southeast, gaining extensive experience on the provider side of AALA inspections.
Andy holds a broad range of water‑ and land‑based outdoor leadership and coaching qualifications, including BSUPA Instructor Trainer, RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor, powerboat, advanced and Keelboat Instructor, and kayaking and canoeing coaching awards. He has also previously been a provider of the Paddle UK PSRC and Paddlesport Instructor award.
In recent years, Andy has worked as a regional health and safety advisor and is an accredited Technical Member of IOSH (the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health). Alongside his role as an inspector, he also provides health and safety advice within the education sector.
Outside of work, Andy enjoys paddling and climbing with friends, his wife and his two sons.
