CONSULTANCY
Clients and case studies
Adventure providers are a diverse and passionate group. Many have developed bespoke systems to support the experiences they provide, within the context in which they provide them.
We work hard to understand what our clients do and how they do it. Recognising that safety management arrangements and project outcomes will only be effective when they work for the client.
We work in the UK and abroad with:
- Providers of adventure activities (commercial, charitable & membership)
- Enforcement authorities (local authorities and HSE)
- Activity associations, bodies and training providers
- Schools, colleges and academies
Charities, clubs and multi-centre providers
Consistent safety management across large and complex organisations can be challenging. Yet it is essential—not only for the safe delivery of activities, but in creating an environment where staff, volunteers, and participants feel confident, supported, and cared for.
Our clients deliver adventurous activities to hundreds of thousands of members, guests and customers each year. They operate across fifty-eight countries, are supported by diverse networks of employed staff and volunteers. Their provision spans associations, affiliations, clubs, and commercial centres.
To meet these challenges, we work closely with individuals across each organisation, both in person and via video conferencing. We review documentation, gather evidence from multiple sources, and observe activities in practice.
Our recommendations focus on enhancing the operational safety of activities. Providing reassurance for those involved in delivery and management. As well as those with legal and moral responsibility for the thousands of activity sessions delivered each year.
Accidents, incidents & near misses
When an incident or near miss occurs, organisations often find themselves navigating complex regulatory processes.
In the UK, enforcement typically sits with local authorities or the Health and Safety Executive—teams with broad remits who may not have specialist knowledge of adventure activity provision.
We provide impartial, sector‑specific expertise to support fair, informed investigations. We help clarify the unique characteristics of adventurous activities, including risk appetite, specialist equipment, environments and competencies to help ensure that outcomes reflect the realities of provision.
Our consultants have contributed to investigations across a wide range of land and water‑based activities. We have worked alongside enforcement authorities, police constabularies, the coroner’s office and providers themselves, including cases involving fatalities, life‑changing injuries and serious near misses.
Our involvement can bring clarity and reassurance at challenging times.
Schools, colleges, local authorities & academy trusts
Across the UK and internationally, schools are increasingly recognising the value of adventurous outdoor experiences—not only as part of the curriculum, but as a vital contributor to pupils’ personal development, wellbeing, and social growth.
We have supported teachers, school leaders, local authorities, trusts, and governors in providing safe, enriching adventure programmes. Our work ensures that pupils benefit from stimulating experiences while staff are supported by the systems and guidance needed to manage risk effectively.
Our work with UK and international schools has helped develop operational frameworks that facilitate effective risk management, define competence at every organisational level, and foster a culture of positive engagement with adventure.
Our approach combines technical rigour with deep sector insight, ensuring that adventure in education is both inspiring and safe. Our work helps protect young people, gives staff confidence that robust systems are in place, and reassures managers and school leaders that their adventure provision is responsible and resilient.
